Services

Access Assessment

This service is for people who have difficulty getting in and out of a vehicle as either a passenger or a driver, or need to assist people or load equipment into vehicles. The assessment explores a range of options including the use of specialist transfer and stowage equipment and wheelchair accessible vehicles.

The assessment is conducted by a specialist Occupational Therapist or Driving Adviser as appropriate.

There may be times where external specialists will be involved to assist with the assessment when we do not have specific equipment available.

The assessment begins with a discussion of your needs and the options that are available. Wherever possible we will trial equipment as to its suitability. After the assessment, a written report is produced to confirm our findings and offer suggestions to overcome any foreseeable access problems.

  • The cost of a self assessment is subsidised by the Centre and is currently set at £20. Home Visits can be arranged for an additional cost if you are unable to attend a centre.

Child Car Seats / Harnesses

Children with disabilities or people with challenging behaviour may require specialist assessment for car seats and harnesses. This can be arranged usually in conjunction with specialist companies. We work closely with the child’s therapist to ensure a suitable seating position is achieved. Information about charities that may assist with funding is available.

  • If you require the assessment for work or legal reasons you should contact the RDAC for further information
