Briefing – Fitness to Drive
- Do you have serious concerns about a client driving and they are not taking on board your advice to inform the DVLA, attend RDAC for an assessment or stop driving? If you are an Occupational Therapist you can now refer your concerns directly to the DVLA who may then begin a fair investigation process into the client’s medical fitness to drive.
- You can express your concerns and send any assessment information you have about the individual’s physical and cognitive abilities directly to the DVLA (ideally with client’s consent, but this is not essential)
- This process was recently agreed between the College of Occupational Therapists and the DVLA
