about us

Travelling is more than just getting from A to B. It means peace of mind when looking after a loved one, enabling you to get to your job you’ve worked so hard to achieve, getting your children to school in a morning, allowing you to be independent and free. Whatever it may be, we are here to help you gain the freedom to move, whether this be as a driver or passenger.

Established in 1989, we are a charity providing assessments for people with medical conditions or disabilities to help them regain or maintain their independence. We offer practical advice on equipment and adaptations, and retraining which will enable you to travel safely and comfortably.

Our Head office is based in the picturesque village of Hampton in Arden, Solihull with 13 outreach centres around the UK.

We are committed to providing quality assessments. In order to do this all of our assessment team are qualified driving instructors and occupational therapists who have been specially trained for the work they do. They receive ongoing training and undertake professional qualifications in driving assessments. There is also continuing professional development with regular supervision and attendance on relevant courses. We monitor the quality of our services through regular surveys and have to meet stringent accreditation standards.

Our independent assessment services are accredited by the national charity Driving Mobility. Driving Mobility is the umbrella body which oversees 20 organisations across the UK – some of which are wholly charitable organisations whilst others operate within the NHS. Driving Mobility ensures that there are common standards, promotes good practice and offers training and education to all regional centres, whilst working closely with associated national organisations. These include the Department for Transport, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, Driver and Vehicle Agency (NI), Motability and the Police, along with many other valued stakeholders.

Driving Mobility is privileged to have Baroness Thomas of Winchester as their patron and is supported by HM Government.

We always welcome support for the charity. Donations will enable us to subsidise our services to help those who need it the most. RDAC would be extremely grateful for any financial donation. We would also like to welcome any support people are willing to give from becoming a Trustee, helping with publicity or even to wash cars. Your help will always be appreciated.
